Bio

My name is Mariela Constantinidis, I’m a painter living and working in Athens, Greece.
I am a graduate of both the Pierce College of Athens and the French Institute.
In my first steps I had the privilege to study drawing and painting with the well known Greek painter and teacher V. Vlachopoulos.
My journey as a professional artist started back in 1982 just after my studies in Paris (Ecole Camondo / U.C.A.D.  Fine arts, Graphic Design and Decoration).

I started teaching painting sixteen years before. My purpose is to help as many people as I can, to learn how to paint and express themselves in a creative way. I worked with children, adults and disabled persons.
For the last three years I teach painting online in Greek and now I decided to “cross the boarders…”

In the past I also worked as a Graphic designer and illustrator of children’s books.

Painting is my passion, is what I always wanted to do since I was a little child.
Some say that my work… “stands out for its sense of color, its powerful brushstrokes and its particular composition.”
My themes are frequently inspired by the astonishing Cycladic light, or by anything that provokes emotions and/or memories.
Behind the images there is always a hidden story, meaning, or purpose which the viewer is called to find out or, even better discover his own.
I like to play with colors, lights and darks.
I work with all kind of media, sometimes in combinations of two or more, exploring new possibilities.

I’ve done a lot of solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows.
My paintings can be found in important private or public collections in Greece and abroad.

Thank you very much for visiting “Café des Artistes” and I hope you’ll enjoy it…
